Central Collegiate senior, Liv Erickson, has been awarded one of the Best and Brightest Entrance Scholarships to the University of Saskatchewan.

The George and Marsha Ivany President's First and Best Scholarship is awarded based on academics, leadership and contributions to the school and community, to a student from a Canadian high school with a 95 per cent average or higher.

Erickson is one of five students to be awarded the scholarship and will receive $40,000 towards her schooling over the course of four years at the U of S.

“I feel amazing,” she says. “I always felt really drawn to U of S for so many reasons, and it really felt like [the scholarship] solidified my decision clearly, and it’s gotten me really excited about going to university... I’m really pumped about it, it’s an awesome thing to receive.”

She currently has a 96 per cent average and has made numerous contributions to the community.

“In my written application, I talked about starting an environmental club at my high school, as well as getting involved in some other youth climate activism groups in Regina. Also, I spoke about my executive role in SLC (Student Leadership Council). I’m the Head of Fundraising so I plan a lot of fundraisers for our school.”

Erickson is the Central Collegiate representative on the Youth Advisory Committee for the Moose Jaw City Council. The Youth Advisory Committee speaks about situations and issues in Moose Jaw that youth face and tries to come up with solutions to present to the city council.

She also volunteered as a coach for the “Girls in the Game” organization.

“They focus on encouraging young girls to stay in sports and encouraging self-confidence and strength, both mentally and physically,” she adds.

Erickson plans on going into the Faculty of Arts and Science for a degree in the Environment and Society program with a certificate in sustainability.

“I’m just passionate about climate action and I think that having an education in that field is what's going to make you a better leader. If you know what you’re talking about, you can act properly and be fit for any role, whether that's in politics or in any other sort of policy-making area. Even if that’s working on projects in sustainability, or research, or education, I think you really need to know what you’re talking about to be able to make a greater impact.”

501 and Counting!!

We now have 501 people registered on the CCI Alumni pages. That's absolutely fantastic. It's been just over a month since we announced the website and the response has been incredible.

There's been a lull in the creation of new content on the site but we have more in store after the holiday season. In the new year the Photo Albums and the CCI History Page(s) will be expanded and there may be a few surprises in the works!

A big "thank you" to everyone for making this such a fun site!

THE CHAB MORNING SHOW: L-R: LORI DEAN, DEB COWAN, CRAIG HEMINGWAY, DEIGN SALIDO

Well, it was another busy morning meeting with the media.  First thing in the morning Deb Cowan ('71) and Deign Salido ('87) met with CHAB's morning hosts, Craig Hemingway and Lori Dean for a radio interview. Later in the morning, both Deb and Deign went back to CCI to meet with Moose Jaw Times Herald for a photo op and interview regarding the CCI 100 Reunion.  The CCI100 "buzz" is in the air and is catching exponentially!!  The whole committee is dedicated to making the 100 year reunion a...

It was quite a hit Launching the CCI100 website at Central's parent teacher interview.  It's amazing how many people have stayed in Moose Jaw.  We were trying to capture the parents who attended Central (roughly those from grads '67 - '90).  Another generation has passed on CCI's traditions and it shows from the parent-teacher interview.  Some of the present students were even amazed that their parents were once "cool" teenagers!!!

We are doing an official launch over a two day period.  Tomorro...

Registering on the Website

After writing yesterday that people were spreading the website address by word of mouth I should have twigged to the fact that many of these new people did not receive the November 1st information email. I should have also realized that many of those November 1st emails would have disappeared into the internet ether or may have been eaten by spam filters. Having said this I'd like to correct this oversight by giving some directions/instructions for the site.

The previous list of registrants from...

Amazement

Every night I sit down at the computer to update the pdf linked to the CCI Alumni home page and every night I am amazed at the number of new names that appear each day. News of the Reunion hasn't been in the paper or on the television. There haven't been any new announcements sent via email. It seems that people are being reached by word of mouth and the evidence can be found on this website. At the time of this entry there are 314 people registered on the CCI Alumni pages and the website has ha...

Technical Difficulties

News from the wonderful world of computers today.

Some of you may have noticed that the CCI Alumni list does not sort properly when using "sort by Maiden Name". A fix for this problem is in the works and should yield results quite soon.

Speaking of sorting the list... we hope that everyone has found the link for the "sort by graduating year pdf"in the description area of the CCI Alumni home page. We've now made it easier to find your grad year by colour coding alternate years.

Almost 300 people...
